I didn't fully realize the degree to which americans are groomed into having horrible spending habits until I got to know some irl and saw the difference in how we think about money, it's honesty depressing because the whole system is aimed to making them feel like taking small steps to improve your life like saving will never amount to anything.

#and kind of infuriating bc they are fucking wasteful #this kid spent two months worth of rent to buy useless shit for his already furnished apartment #that he was going to live in for one semester #only to have to throw most of it away bc nobody was interested in buying extra furniture #for our - I'll reiterate - already fully furnished 20 square meters rooms
